Re: OT: Logging-In Issues at Altec User Board
Sure, it's not much hard drive space - but it's a lot when the threads download 1 by 1. Takes a while. :coffeedrinker:
It's going to be even longer sending it back up, as typical broadband upload speeds are rather slow. But a few hours should do it.
Using website capture software is slow because it has to follow all the links and figure out what to grab. An archive via the phpBB software will know right were to look and should be much faster.
And I don' know how much room the images will take - I haven't found where the attachments live. Fortunately we were limited in the size and number of attachments, so it may not be too bad. They should come in the archive when Todd does the backup.
It's not a huge forum, you could carry it on a USB thumb drive. That means we have plenty of room to grow.

Yup..it's not the AMOUNT of info, it's getting it arranged properly.
Hope you understood I was joking....I REALLY do have stacks of drives though, all small.
Ones I upgraded years ago and never tossed. If I ever make it to town I have a pickup load of junk for the recycler.
I should just post it to Craigslist...somebody might come get it.

Well when you do a disk Capture it should be an exact image, and then only needs to be mounted onto a new drive. Should be Exactly the same. I mean 1 gigabyte isn't a terrribly a lot of data. The biggest obstacle I think will be broken links,etc.....
Re: OT: Logging-In Issues at Altec User Board
Which is way the admin needs to do it. The software is setup to do exactly that. I've just been hacking at it to see what I could find.
Those old hard drivers have fun magnets in them, if you care to smash 'em up. ;)

Update:
My website host guy is certain we can do everything on his servers for a modest fee.
He's looking at the forum software available that is compatible with his systems right now, and will send me to a sample forum shortly.
I'll keep you posted.
Oh - and, yes, I've told him we want to archive everything here and import into the new one.

Anything on a library yet ? That is most important I think. The more Folks we can keep here without having to go to JBL Heritage for literature the better.I can send what i have,if others have some that they can send we should have a pretty nice little Library of our very own ! For all members to share ! :2thumbsup:

Re: OT: Logging-In Issues at Altec User Board
I have a humongous library of scanned Altec literature, some of which is posted on my website. I also have a HUGE amount of stuff that isn't there, because, frankly, it takes a lot of time to put it there, and, as they say, time is money. I am involved in other things to help supplement the salary of the small church I pastor, so I've only been able to devote small chunks of my time to the Altec website whenever possible.
If we can get this new site going, I'll put everything in one place so they can be accessible to anyone who needs them.
- Todd

I'm good at praying. I don't deal with zeros and ones at all, but I can still help!

Hostboard.com was down most of the day today. Hey, I've got an idea--maybe we should move this forum to another ISP/server! ;)
